October 18, 2021 – Leaving Portugal Arriving in Spain
It was a typical moving day – bags out by 7:30am, breakfast at 7:30am and on the bus by 8:30am. We left our Posada in Evora and headed for the border with Spain. Sira let us know as we crossed the border. We had passed many cork trees as we left Portugal. In Spain we started seeing fields filled with solar panels.
Our first stop was Merida. We had a tour of the Roman arena and amphitheater that was uncovered in the 1930’s. The amphitheater is the best preserved that I have been to. After the tour, we had a tasting of Iberico ham. It is from black pigs that only eat acorns. It is delicious and very expensive.
We had a quick lunch of melted cheese and toasted bread before getting back on the bus. We rode for 3 1/2 hours with a restroom break after 2 hours before arriving in Carmona. Our Posada is at the top of a hill with a spectacular view of the valley. By the time we checked in and got our bags it was 6pm. Since dinner is scheduled for 8pm, Sira took us out for a short walk to see the village at 6:45pm. Nice town with cobblestone streets.
Dinner was a 4 course meal with a Salmon and prawns entree. I dislike salmon so I had a delicious pork chop. Carolyn said the salmon was very good.
Tomorrow we go to Seville.

  1. Hi Elsie,

Thank you for your wonderful blog. I am unable to travel and count on people like you to provide me with some travel sustenance. I am Carol’s friend from California (now Hawaii) and actually lived within walking distance of your home in Oakland at one point. Happy travels and mahalo! Amy
