We got to sleep in this morning and didn’t meet Sira until 9:30am. We walked a few blocks and took a funicular up to a park that had a view of the whole city. We walked around and e dphotos.
After riding back down we walked to the Guggenheim. We arrived right before the 11am opening time. Carolyn and I took the elevator to the top floor (3rd floor) and worked our way down. The building itself is a work of art. You can look down and across the building from the very floor. The art is a matter of personal opinion. No one though would not be impressed by not just the exterior design but also the interior. Unfortunately no photos are allowed to be taken in the galleries so I only got a picture of a Jeff Koons sculpture outside.
We took a tram a few stops to get on the 1pm River cruise. The cruise went from the end of the new city north past our hotel and the Guggenheim out to the industrial area and back.
After getting off we went to the old city for lunch. There were 3 of us and we ordered way too much food. We sat and ate in true Spanish-style slowly for 2 hours. We still left some uneaten.
Carolyn and I set out to find the fine arts museum. After a little confusion and directions from a young girl we found it. We were surprised to find out it was free because the main galleries are closed and only 2 areas were open. We stayed but were out of there in 15 minutes.
We walked back to the hotel with a stop at a store we had seen in the morning. Right before we got to the hotel we noticed a large head floating in the river. We had not noticed it earlier and don’t know if it is always there.
After resting awhile we decided we were done for the day. Both of us were still not hungry and after we found we had walked over 7 miles and 17,000+ steps, the idea of going out again did not sound like fun.
Tomorrow, San Sébastien and first possible rain.

I’ll be interested how the weather is. Leaving the 5th for Bilbao so will be following in some of your footsteps.

The forecast for the next 10 days is high in the mid 60’s and either cloudy or rainy. Google it before you leave.

Have you been to Bilbao? Met Elsie on a HAL cruise and follow her travel blog. Sounds like your kind of place and I’d always thought I’d like to go there as well.
