Today is our last full day in Spain. We started out at 8am by going to a laboratory for our PCR test that the U.S. Requires for us to travel home. The six of us were done by 8:30am.
At 9:30am we met our local guide for a tour of Oviedo. At 1030am, Sira announced that she had received our Covid test results and we are all negative. Yippee. We traveled by bus all over the city and went up a mountain to see both the Christ statue and a great view of Oviedo. On the way down we stopped at a church and a Palace built in the 9th century.
Returning to the city we took a short walking tour of the old Town.
At 1pm we headed to our Farewell lunch at a typical Asturian restaurant. They are known for the way they pour the hard apple cider. They open the bottle and hold the bottle over their head and pour into a glass near their waist. The floor is covered in sawdust to catch any spray. It tastes very bitter. Our meal started with a fish pate with bread and toast. Next up was 5 different sliced cured pork meats. Third, we got again corn biscuit with fried ground pork on it. Next, we got ham croquettes and 2 plates of fried calamari. This was followed by the Spanish equivalent of chicken fried steak with French fries and blue cheese sauce. Finally dessert was served. It was apple crepes. Obviously we just had a little of each serving and did not eat all the food served.
The rest of today will be spent relaxing and getting ready to fly tomorrow. No blog tomorrow. We leave for the airport at 715am (1015pmPDT). I’ll to do a wrap-up when I am home.
Upon my return I’ll be getting ready to leave December 9th on my next trip. I’ll fly to Santiago Chile and after 1 night fly on to Easter Island. After another night in Santiago, on to Buenos Aires on Dec 15th to board a ship that will take me to the Falkland Islands, South Georgia island, and Antarctica. I’ll be gone a month. Please follow my blog.

This trip has been grand and you have documented so well.
Truly looking forward to your next blog.
