December 28, 2021 – Heroina and Paulet Islands

The seas are finally calm. I headed down to breakfast to see how my knee would do. I got there with just a few painful steps. I told the dining room manager to take me off the room service list.
I don’t have complete confidence in my knee getting on and off a zodiak so my plan is to stay aboard today.
At 830am they announced that there was too much ice near Heroina Island so there will be no landing but they will do zodiak tours of the island. The temperature was 28F without wind chill factor. Those coming back said it was a good tour.
I walked up to deck 8 which has a large lounge facing forward. I was able to see the island and icebergs. I went out on the deck to take pictures. I’m glad that I have a zoom lens.
I had a nice lunch and headed back to my cabin to rest my knee.
We sailed to Paulet Island. On the way a pod of Orcas was feeding just 100 meters of our ship. They were visible for more than 15 minutes. I watched from my balcony. We have seen many icebergs of every size today. It finally feels like Antarctica.
They did zodiak landings on Paulet Island. I took pictures from my balcony. There were thousands of Adelie penguins. I was glad I didn’t go in to shore due to the rocky surtace.
It has been cloudy the last few days so we are all hoping for a sunny day.

Every black dot in this picture is a penguin
