New Year’s Day started slowly. It is overcast and snowing. Our first stop, Usefull Island, was cancelled due to weather conditions. The expedition team is now calling it Useless Island.
We got covid tested again and everyone was negative. YEA!
In the afternoon we got to go out on a Zodiak tour of a bay with a huge Glacier. While sailing past we saw 3 glacial walls calve. There was a lot of ice and beautiful views. We saw a sail boat that was moored. No one knew if they were researchers or a tourist charter.
More whales were spotted after dinner.
Tomorrow is our last day in Antarctica. We’ll spend January 3rd and 4th sailing through Drakes Passage. We’ve already been warned that it will be rough. We’ve been told to start packing while it is calm.

Where you able to identify the type of whales you were seeing?
