April 14, 2022 – Dead Sea

We left Petra at 9am. We traveled on a highway through the desert where Moses roamed during his 40 years in desert. After a bathroom stop, we proceeded to the Dead Sea Museum. The sea is shrinking every year due to lack of rain and that Israel is diverting water from the Jordan River for irrigation.
We headed to our hotel, the Movenpick Dead Sea Resort. It is very nice. Most of us put on our swimsuits and headed down to the Dead Sea. We were told to float in the water for no more than 10 minutes, then put the black clay on our bodies, wait 15 minutes, go back in to rinse off the clay. Finally you shower. When I went in the water, they help you to lie down and float on the water. When I wanted to get out, I couldn’t get my feet to stay down to stand up. It was a very strange feeling. Finally I got out of the water. I spread the clay on my body. My skin felt very oily. I wanted to take a picture but my hands were covered in clay. After washing off the clay, I headed to my room to take a long shower.
Tomorrow is our last day. We are heading to Amman where we will be tested for Covid.
I’ve been told we’ll be leaving the hotel at midnight to go to the airport. It is a 4 hour flight to Frankfurt. After a 3 1/2 hour layout, it is 11 1/2 hour flight to SFO. After my BART ride to Pleasanton I should be home by 4pm PDT. No post tomorrow.
