This morning we docked in Scalloway in the Shetland Islands.
At 930am the expedition team led a large group of us on a 4 mile hike to a lighthouse. It was overcast but not raining. It felt good to be hiking. The temperature was in the mid 50s.
We got back about 1130am and had lunch. Then we got on buses to travel to the south shore. The tour we were on was called “In the footsteps of the Vikings ”. First stop was another lighthouse. As we walked up the long path to the lighthouse, we found groups of puffins on the other side of a stone wall.
The next stop was to a complex where they have found dwellings from the stone age, the bronze age, and the iron age. It was very windy and cold while we were there. Our guide said that it was settled so many times because it was good land for farming.
Back at our ship we had a port talk. The Covid count is up to 11 passengers. We are sailing tonight to Kirkwall in the Orkney Islands.
