May 22, 2023 – Vantage Ireland cruise – CANCELLED

Vantage Travel seems to be having financial problems. I was supposed to fly to Dublin on May 29th. Three weeks ago I found out my airline tickets were invalid. Vantage said not to worry. Now, one week out, the cruise segment before mine, from Reyjavik to Dublin, has been cancelled. I have not heard directly from Vantage but am sure that I will get the phone call soon.

I have two other Vantage trips scheduled in October 2023 and September 2024. I called to cancel these today. Hopefully, i can get some money back.

Fortunately, I will be joining a friend on a Viking cruise in France in September. I’m also doing a road trip in June to the Ashland Oregon Shakespeare Festival.

I’ll let you all know when I leave home again.

  1. So sorry to hear this, Elsie. I had thought that Vantage was pretty much solvent, but apparently it isn’t. We are only now getting back into travel after COVID and don’t have any trips booked with them.
We did a cruise with American Cruise Lines last month through the Chesapeake Bay area. Some aspects were really good, and some were really bad. The ship was nice and the cabins lovely. The staff seemed disorganized…like they had never done this before. It was mostly evident in the dining room. The food was hit or miss…some items were really delicious, some were inedible. I would be hard pressed to recommend this cruise line to others.
Keep us updated on your future travels. Love to read your blog!!

  2. Hi Elsie – we met you on the Boston to Bahamas trip in November. We too have had recent issues w/Vantage. We were supposed to go on the Portugal/Spain trip May 12-28, w/a 4-day pre-trip to Barcelona. In-route to Barcelona, after we had flown from Seattle to Chicago, we received a call from Vantage 8 minutes before boarding the plane to Barcelona, telling us that our Barcelona trip had been cancelled. At that point, Vantage advised us to proceed on to Barcelona and just get to Madrid to the hotel already reserved there in order to start our river cruise. Next day we got the call that the entire trip was cancelled because the boat vendor “couldn’t commit”. So for the next week, we explored Barcelona before Vantage flew us home. We have submitted our Barcelona trip expenses, but not holding our breath for refund. The rest of the trip was booked on existing credits, so they will not refund credits – said we can book another trip (yeh, right). Like you, we think Vantage is done – the Massachusetts Attorney General has gotten close to 1,000 complaints against Vantage just since April. The article we read was for people from other states to contact their respective State Attorney General to file complaints if Vantage does not resolve the issue directly.
