February 8, 2024 – Cave Tubing in Belize

This morning we rode about an hour out of Belize City to get to a complex of caves that the Mayan considered the “underground”.  The “underground“ was considered to be the realm 9f their gods.
We hiked for an hour. We had to walk through waist-deep river water and explored a dry cave where we saw sleeping bats. At the end of the hike, we were put into tubes to float down the river. They tied 16 tube together and had 2 guides to keep us from going astray.  We floated through many caves. It was a fun ride.
When we got out and changed to dry clothes we were treated to rum punch.  After this we went and had burritos for lunch.
We had our farewell dinner. Seven of the group will stay for the 5 day post trip while 8 of us will fly home on Friday.
It has been a great trip.  I got to learn a lot about the Mayans and the four countries we visited. I, also, renewed friendships with people I had traveled with before. 
My next trip is a transatlantic cruise from Florida to Barcelona on April 5th followed by a week in Barcelona and a week in Madrid. My friend Oscar will be joining me on April 19th when I arrive in Barcelona.  I probably won’t start my blog until our first port in the Azores on April 12th.
