I flew out of SFO at 11am on Nov. 5th and arrived at 3pm on Nov 6th (or 11pm PST Nov 5). I didn’t sleep at all but watched 4 movies. We were delayed getting off the plane due to a medical emergency. I finally exited immigration at 4pm. Steve’s flight got in at 4:41pm and we met up at 5pm. Caught the 5:45pm train to Tokyo and checked into our hotel at 730pm.
Went to bed at 9pm. Wide awake at 2am. Got a call from Holland America at 4pm asking if I’d give up my room and share Steve’s cabin. It was a very generous offer to refund all my (and Steve’s) money plus future cruise credit. Steve and I agreed to say no. I guess they overbooked the cruise.
At 8am, Steve and I met our guide, Yeonmi, for a 8 hour tour of Tokyo. We traveled by train between the area of the city. Our first stop was the Tsukiji fish market. We walked through the market and learned about how the different fish are sold. It was a large market. We stopped for coffee so I could rest. Everywhere was very crowded so I use d my trekking poles to prevent falling due to my continuing balance problems.
Back on a Train to Asakusa Temple and Nakamise shopping street. First we went to a view point to look down on the temple and nearby buildings. The Namamise Shopping Street is 250 feet long and leads to the temple. Every type of store is there. We walked through o the temple and went inside. After the temple we went to a sushi restaurant for lunch. It was very good and a nice break from walking.
After lunch we took trains to Takeshita Street which 8s filled with trendy stores and is the place where young people like to hang out. We walked to the Meiji Jingu Shrine. Yeonmi explained that we now had a one hour walk through the shrine property. I was very tired so I waited at a coffee shop while Steve and Yeonmi did the walk.
Our final stop was Shibuya. This is the famous intersection where 5 pedestrian walkways cross the streets. On average 2000 people cross in a single “WALK” cycle with up to 500,000 each day.
We headed back to our hotel and said goodbye and arrigato to Yeonmi at 3:30pm. I had walked 14000 steps and almost 7 miles so I went to my room to rest.
Later we had a light dinner and went to sleep at 9pm.
Tomorrow we board our ship.

Oh how I will enjoy traveling with you on this journey. So happy you are back traveling. And 14,000 steps? Yikes!! How far you’ve come over the past months!
