June 28-29-30, 2022 – SFO to Reykjavik
I took BART to SFO this morning. I was flying SFO to Montreal and then another flight to Reykjavik. The first flight was supposed to leave at 12:55pm. We finally took off at 2pm. I was happy because I’d have less time waiting for the 2nd flight in Montreal. We landed at 930pm but the gate for us had a plane at it. We waited an hour before we could deplane. I now had less than one hour before my next flight. I arrived at the gate and it had a flight to Dublin boarding. My 11:20pm departure was delayed until 1am. We landed at 930am in Reykjavik. I waited for my checked bag. Unfortunately it never arrived. I filled out a claim form and was told that they couldn’t say if it would be found by the time we leave Iceland on July 3rd. I went out to the arrival hall and looked for the Vantage transfer to the hotel. No one was there. I called the Boston office and they said they’d check and someone would call me. Five minutes later, i see a man with a small piece of paper with my last name and two other names written on it. He found the other two and we got to our hotel at noon. We were able to get into our rooms. I made a quick list of essentials that I would need. Vantage had a 1pm bus to the city center so I went shopping. I got another warm top, a tee shirt for sleeping, a raincoat, toothbrush, tooth paste, and deodorant. I had a 2nd set of clothes in my carry-on so I’m in okay shape. If my bag arrives before we sail away, I’ll have the hotel donate the clothing I bought today.
We had the pre-trip Welcome Dinner. I had delicious lamb chops. I gave in and went to sleep at 9am. I woke up a few times in the night but quickly feel back asleep.
June 30, 2022
I got up at 730am and went to breakfast. It was a standard breakfast buffet. At 9am, I took the shuttle back to the harbor. I googled to find the nearest pharmacy which was 2.5 miles away. I decided to walk there. The road I was on had retail stores so I window shopped as I walked. Just when I getting tired, I looked up and saw my hotel. Turns out the pharmacy is just behind the hotel. I bought a knee brace in case my luggage never shows up.
It’s raining outside and we are off to the blue lagoon. If I get to take pictures, I will do another post tonight.
